The Triangle community created an inaugural Women’s Entrepreneurship Happy Hour to help honor and celebrate the occasion. This inaugural event, hosted by HQ’s Cannon Room, was incredibly well attended, with a waitlist of more than 40 people (and with coordinators receiving calls throughout the day from people trying to get tickets). Dr. Sarah Glova was one of a team of eight women entrepreneurs who created, organized, and facilitated the event, which included cafe-style roundtable discussions. Since, Sarah has continued to support the event through semi-annual Women’s Innovation Day events.

In 1987, female business owners could be required to have a male relative cosign for loans. Even if she was the 100% owner of her business. Things are different now, so what changed? Well, as Dr. Sarah Glova shares in this unique talk, in 1988 H.R. 5050 passed which was the Women’s Business Ownership Act, which removed the requirement for women to have male relative cosigners on a loan. The group behind making this possible was called National Association Women Business Owners (NAWBO), and there were many active chapters around our country, made up of women advocating for change. This talk was an opportunity for attendees to learn more about some of these female entrepreneur advocates.
